Welcome to our Department!

The beauty of the City of New Haven is personified in its parks for residents to enjoy nature. At the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for New Haven residents by creating an atmosphere of community through people, parks and programs. We are proudly responsible for the stewardship of the Elm City’s over 2,200 acres of parks, and the tree belt. Our department offers a wide variety of programming.

Free Family Movie Nights
Join us for a monthly themed movie night. Each night will begin at 6pm with an Arts & Crafts project that will be led by our staff. The movie will begin at approximately 7pm. Bring snacks and your whole family for this free and fun monthly event!

Double Dutch

Children will be able to learn the basics of jumping double dutch and the importance of teamwork.  Double dutch helps improve coordination, burn calories and helps improve your overall health.  Children will be able to compete with others.

Family Paint Nights

Whether you come with your family,  or if you decide to come out by yourself or with friends.  This program is designed to teach you how to paint on canvas using different techniques.  The instructor will come up a theme and then demonstrate what has to be done to create your own “masterpiece.”

Martial Arts - Kids 

An introductory class for ages 7-15. Kids will learn the fundamentals of Karate.

What a nice way to relieve some stress and other worries.  Pottery helps with Focusing.  It gives you a sense of accomplishment and is a form of self-expression.  Once the classes are finished you will be able to take your pieces and share them with your family and friends.
