The beauty of the City of New Haven is personified in its parks for residents to enjoy nature. At the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for New Haven residents by creating an atmosphere of community through people, parks and programs. We are proudly responsible for the stewardship of the Elm City’s over 2,200 acres of parks, and the tree belt. Our department offers a wide variety of programming.
Lighthouse Park will be opened Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7:00am – 8:00pm until further notice
Staff:(2)Park Managers, (2)Front gate booth operators, (2)First Aide/Lifeguards Note: Lifeguards will not occupy the lifeguard chairs.
Lifeguard Chairs will be posted: “No Lifeguards On Duty Swim At Your Own Risk”,
Lifeguards will soon be provided training to reduce the risk of virus transmission in the course of their duties.
KN-95 mask and gloves will be standard issued equipment for all staff working at lighthouse park. This PPE will be mandatory for all workers.
Public must comply with Gov. Lamont’s Executive Order to wear face coverings when social distancing of 6’ or more is not possible
We will be reducing the parking capacity in the park to 100 cars total
No public gathering or groups over 5
Practice social distancing, stay 6’ from other people
Spacing of 15 feet or more of blankets, chairs on the beach between other parties.
THE SPLASH PAD IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Maintenance removed approximately 125 tables from the picnic areas throughout the park and left about 50 tables scattered throughout park chained to trees so as park users cannot move them to gather in large groups.
The bathrooms in the picnic area will be staffed full time and cleaned every hour.
Pavilions have been closed to the public. Parks maintenance has secured the pavilions.
Lighthouse Playscape is closed until further notice.
Due to the nature of COVID-19 virus we need to take the proper precautions in order to protect all of our participants and families. Unfortunately, we must cancel all of New Haven Parks, Recreation & Trees programs starting today Thursday, March 12th, 2020 through Sunday, April 12th, 2020. This date may change depending on the severity of the situation that is happening in our communities. We will be providing updates to all of parents and families through email, Facebook posts, and on our website.
